Okay so I didn’t necessarily hate this movie when I saw it, but I thought it was slow. Like I respect this movie because Kevin Smith is a God and he only had $27,575 to make this movie and it is considered a classic, but compared to some of Smith’s other movies, this just wasn’t my favorite. A family friend of mine said that I needed to wait to watch it again because eventually, I will get it and think it is the greatest movie of all times.
So I did definitely liked this movie a lot more this time around. It is a pretty great movie gonna be honest. I really liked how the plot was kinda all over the place but then at the end everything came together like the old guy in the bathroom and the way the Dante got caught selling the cigarettes to the 4 year old girl. I also like that there are a bunch of on going jokes that keep getting brought up like, “I wasn’t even supposed to be here today”, “Can I buy a pack of cigarettes?”, and “Are you open?”
I really loved that this was in black and white. I know that it was like a budget thing because Kevin Smith was thought of as a joke and couldn’t get any money, but this worked in his favor. In color I think that the magic would be taken away and it wouldn’t have been as good. There was also some great monologues in this movie and I really liked that. This movie was acually super well written all together. Best line: “You know, there’s a million fine looking women in the world, dude. But they don’t all bring you lasagna at work. Most of ’em just cheat on you”. For it being Smith’s first movie it did leave a great legacy for his movies to come.
