I have been meaning to rewatch this movie and didn’t even realize that it fit into the category of the week. This was the first ‘horror’ movie I ever saw and seeing it again as a person who is slowly starting to enjoy horror movies was a really great experience. My mom and I are completely fascinated by serial killers and their stories and this movie covered all those things.
The reason I love this movie so much is because it has one of those ‘Sixth Sense’ endings. Everything that happens with Hannibal at the end it amazing. I completely forgot how this movie ended, and when they were in the ambulance and Hannibal takes off the skin face, I almost threw something! My mind was blown and it was just so brilliant!! I love that Buffalo Bill was someone that you would expect to be a serial killer and then Hannibal was this respectable extremely smart therapist.
The visuals of the movie are pretty cool with all the blood. When Hannibal is just standing in the cage full of blood, it is crazy to think/know that it isn’t real blood and that it is all phoney! The makeup on the woman in the pit in completely uncanny as well. If you compare her in her first scene and then while she is in the pit, they don’t remotely even look like the same person; that crazy impressive.
The storyline is just really there not only with the crime side but will everyones backstories; more specifically Clarice’s. Her whole story revolves around her dad’s death and the time she was living on her mother’s cousins sheep farm. Her personally life, believe it or not, helped the whole case come together. Without her being vulnerable toward Hannibal, he would have never given her the correct clues she needed to fine Buffalo Bill. Creating two-plus stories that eventually tie together is very impressive and intriguing to me. I can barlying make one idea come to a conclusion.
Overall this is a classic movie that will never get old or boring for generations to come. I give it a 8/10 just simply because it’s a great movie that keeps you guessing the whole damn time. It is understandable that it is not everyones cup of tea, but it is just brilliant with all its components and should been watched at least once by everyone.
